I have a almost 20 year old, three tooth bridge that broke off the other night. I don't have dental insurance, so the replacement cost is going to all come out of my pocket. I've seen other O-Ters in the past talk about haveing used dentist that knock something off the bill for patients that pay cash. Can any of you in the B.R./St. Francisville/Hammond area give a recommendation on one in particular?

most medical/dental providers will set up a payment plan, just talk with a few office managers and tell them your predicament

You should take this to the money talk board, you won't get serious or helpful answers here

did it break off intact, does it just need to be glued back in? probably a minimal charge for that if so

Oh no, it broke the little metal pins out the tooth stubs.

Lot's of people don't. I've got pretty good health insurance through my work, but they don't provide vision or dental. I've looked into self paying for my own dental insurance in the past, going so far as to meet several different agents. About the only thing you can really do on your own is get what is called a dental 'plan', which gives you a small discount on most procedures. I've certainly never found anything like the dental insurance I had when I worked part time at Salsbury's Dodge City while I was going to L.S.U. Car dealerships have the hookup, all the way.

it'll cost a few bucks I would imagine but dental offices and doctors offices are pretty good about working with you to set up a payment plan, my wife worked in medicine for a number of years and quite a few on the money side of it, they'll work with you, might have to do a little shopping, good luck

BTW what about going to the dental school in New Orleans? they might do it for gratis

I figured the O-T would get the most views. I still might take your advice on that before it's over with. I can't start to do anything about it until Tuesday anyway because of Memorial Day.

shite, you just reminded me about the LSU Dental school. They're actually in Baton Rouge now. I'll have to check into that for sure. I remember my father had good luck with the old school when it was in New Orleans. My main concern is having to wait forever to get seen.

I don't have to set up a payment plan, really. I have enough cash on hand, but it's still going to be probably five grand or probably more even. Any thing I can save will be nice.

I'd ask about it anyway, you'd be surprised at how flexible they can be and it's interest free, if you give them a sob story the might even write some of it off, good luck

Most dentist will take Care Credit which gives like 18 months, no interest. May be an option for ya.
