Oh yikes. So that is why the horses are safer if let loose?

One of my patients was worried about her horse today; she was trying to decide if she should/had time to drive him from Metairie to Folsom.

I don't think it's going to be bad enough to move horses, but who knows. The trees in Folsom would worry me.

During Gustav the barn we were in had a bunch of tall trees around it. Most people chose to put the horses in the pasture. One person didn't. A tree fell on the barn and broke her horse's back

I also know someone who lost a horse is a pasture when a tree fell. Trees are the big problem.

The section my horse is in was very hastily built to accommodate us after the flood took our last barn. Kinda more of a shed tacked on to the end of the indoor arena.

We shall see but fingers crossed.

That doesn't sound good. How is it connected? Nails, screws, bolts?

The indoor ends and a shed row was built on the back. It is a separate thing. It has it's own roof. I'm just glad there are no big trees around it.

Well, his and your parents generation fricked things up fiscally in this country, to where home ownership unaffordable in your average city. Throw that in with dissolving workers rights and benefits, and you have a dying middle class.

Do horses generally stay together in a group during bad weather or do they separate and wait it out alone?

When turned out they usually group together.

Ours will be in stalls because the idiots in charge feel like a single strand of hot wire is sufficient fencing

[quote Nothing like being told you're a disappointment from the one man you want to make proud of you [/quote]

Don't take it personally. He probably wants great-grandkids before he passes and needs to gripe about Kids These Days. I understand your pain though, my PawPaw was my hero. He survived childhood during the Great Depression and was a Master Gunnery Sergeant during WW2.

Most people can't compare to or complain about anything to our PawPaws.
