I've been an Amazon customer since 2001.... Their customer service is not what it used to be. In fact, within the last year i'd say their customer service is mediocre.

I heard a podcast about it a few weeks back. They had people bringing in 10-15 year old stuff and replacing it with brand new stuff.

This happened to me. I had a ~15 year old carry-on bag that I beat the hell out of, and eventually busted at a seam. It said "lifetime warranty" so I called, and they said send it back and they'd fix it. Once they got it they called back and asked whether I'd mind if they just sent a brand new replacement instead. I was floored.

I'll be a Bean customer for life

That's why they can afford to do what they do. They do have very high customer service standards.

Their loyalty base is generationally entrenched.

When I was in college I had a job at Sears and worked in the shoe department. The first day on the job a man came in with a pair of worn out shoes. They looked like they came from the great depression, and he told me the uppers had worn out.

Manager of the department told me to help him and there would be no charge. He said the shoes sold by Sears guaranteed the uppers for ever and if they wore out, free replacement.

That was back in the day and I do not know the policy now.

Yeah, This American Life did a story on people abusing their return policy. Pretty funny listen.

h, and no time limit. I brought a jacket back to them that was a large and was too big for me after I has slimmed up. It was two years old. full money back, cash

See, that's bullshite. You're jacking up prices for everyone else when you do shite like this. You bought a jacket, had it for two years and then brought it back? How fricking embarrassed did you feel walking up to the counter to return it? Probably not at all.

Costco is my favorite

I bought a recliner from Costco a couple years ago. About a year later, something in the metal frame snapped and the recliner was shot. I brought it back and rolled that bitch in there to customer service on a cart and they refunded me on the spot. Just had to look up my account and confirm the purchase. I didn't have a receipt.
