License plate question

I bought a truck from a guy a couple of weeks ago. TTL place (Denham Springs Notary) called me yesterday and said we couldn't transfer the license plate because the truck is over 6,000 lbs, which requires a certain license plate. They had originally told me the plate could transfer and I'd save $100.
My question is, how did he get this plate in the first place? It's not like the weight of the truck changed. It's a 2010 truck and this doesn't seem to be a new law/rule.

Are you worried about $100 on the price of a truck?

No. I'm honestly just curious. If the DMV let the original owner use this plate for the truck, why can't I? If I can save $100, why not?

They know some one
They screwed up
They don't like you
They liked him better
You don't know what you own
He sold them on the idea
It was never legal
It is a money grab
Chose one or more of those. It doesn't matter. If time is money you already lost more than it would have cost tof just pay for the new plate.

Depends on what you earn.
But you obviously went/talked to the DMV. So that took time.

The plate can not be transferred, just like the plate you get will not be able to be transferred to the next owner. That is what I get out of it. Now is this true , have no idea.

The TTL office went to the DMV, then called me. Read the OP. That was included in my 5 minutes.

DMV issued him the plate but due to the weight of the truck it cannot be transferred to you. I know it the law a stupid one but it is a ,only racket.

whoever registered that truck for the previous owner fricked up, and now whoever is registering it for you doesn't also want that frick up being on their end since they noticed it. thats about it really.
