Cancer survivor is now a Marine
I really don’t care if this has been posted already. Dude needs recognition.
Michael Campofiori was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was 11. Went through chemotherapy for 5 years. Applied to the Corps multiple times and finally got a waiver to join. And just graduated Boot Camp last week.
From an old retired Army guy, I salute his determination to accomplish his dream.
Go kick arse Marine!
ETA- The picture is at the end of The Crucible when he was presented his Eagle, Globe and Anchor.

Is the guy next to him on the verge of tears?
ETA: The man behind him, that's the blackest a human being can get

I wonder what his MOS is.
Seeing ACOGs in boot camp makes me feel old.

This is likely at the end of the Crucible when you get your EGA (it's the final training event in boot camp). So yeah, kind of emotional.

I imagine it would be extremely emotional. He just became a Marine.

Didn't realize it was the Crucible.

Right? I wish they would go back to iron sights for boot.
They'll learn about all the other stuff in MCT/SOI and the fleet anyway.

When I went through in 03 the Crucible ended 8 days before boot camp and you didn't get your EGA until the day before graduation (family day). I was on the east coast and the west coast was doing their Crucible like halfway through boot for some reason.

Yeah they don't even qual with irons now.
It's just so weird seeing all the newer gear in boot camp. We still had ALICE packs and PASGT helmets. Not only were those replaced (ILBE and LWH) but the replacements were replaced too (FILBE and ECH).
And they showed a recruit the other day who wasn't even born when the Afghan war started. Now that will make you feel old. :/

That’s amazing. I went to school with a boy who had leukemia. He was diagnosed in elementary, like 2 grade or so. But this was back when leukemia was a virtual death sentence. I think it was about 8th it 9th grade when he died. That poor kid went through hell.

WWE wrestler Roman Reigns briefly retired in October because his leukemia came back. He played football at GT (most famously blasting Brandon Cox after an interception against Auburn in 2005) and had to retire from that when he first got leukemia in 2008.
