have a friend that runs a charter boat out of Key West, he always tells the story of another charter boat there that ran across some people out a makeshift raft that had lost their boat in a storm and had been floating for a few days, they approached the raft and told the survivors to sit tight, they were going to pick them up, but they wanted to make a couple of passes by the raft to pick up a dolphin or two, they did, then rescued the guys and took them in
