more like it's getting national news stories written about them. the attorneys are "celebrity attorneys" who love the attention
I would say, "and" as opposed to "more like" but yeah, that too.

they're not getting close to $100M and they know it

At the very least they should have paid extra to swim with the piggies.

Nah, of course not... but really, what would be fair in this situation?
Ticket price refunded, travel costs refunded, an extra $5-10K for time and inconvenience?
Does the extra amount vary based on the person? Some people's time is worth more than others.

well it's a class so in theory you just kind of settle and then a special master makes individual determination of who gets what out of the class settlement

So, lawyers get 50%, the dude who filed it takes a 40% cut since it was his idea, and everyone else splits the other 10%.
Got it.
Got it.

You do understand that just because a dollar amount is put in the pleadings, it doesn't mean they have or will ask for that much. In many instances they are forced to plead a dollar amount with zero discovery done.
It's not a hard and fast number and if it proceed to trial, will be up to the jury anyway.

well i think the lawyers get more like, 25%, but it has to be approved by the court in a class
the guy who filed it won't get 40%. he'll probably get a bit more for being a class rep (he's going to have to participate more in the litigation) but nothing like that.

This whole story makes me hate the internet.
On one hand you have rich kids who just do shite for social media.
On the other hand you have some douchebag who wanted to make fun of said rich kids also for social media fame.
Then you have headlines like this and swimming pigs somehow become inserted into the whole half baked manufactured click bait story.
Why lawd

$100M lawsuit divided by 1,000ish attendees means what, $100K each?
Not after lawyers get their share. They'll fare better than any individual festival goer.
