Antioxidant supplements for prevention of mortality in healthy participants and patients with various diseases.

Antioxidant use in humans has been studied extensively and is NOT beneficial.

Seventy-eight randomised trials with 296,707 participants were included.

AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS:
We found no evidence to support antioxidant supplements for primary or secondary prevention. Beta-carotene and vitamin E seem to increase mortality, and so may higher doses of vitamin A. Antioxidant supplements need to be considered as medicinal products and should undergo sufficient evaluation before marketing.

Interesting... Two brothers big into supplements and antioxidants diagnosed with prostate cancer last year.

Two other brothers checked out all clear... I haven't been checked yet but I'm the youngest of the five.

I was under the impression antioxidants like Vitamin C are more effective in prevention but not in treatment. For example, if it's cold and flu season, Vitamin C will decrease the likelihood of getting sick, but if one gets sick, Vitamin C is not going to provide much benefit.

Sorry man. People with terminal cancer need hope. I guess vitamin C gave him a little hope. I've had more than a few relatives die from C, it is tough to go back and wonder and second guess choices made.
