People built and will continue to build monuments for Lee.
Landrieu will try to build a monument of himself.
Beware of people that build monuments of themselves.

Lee was a top graduate of the United States Military Academy

How does that matter? Was it still legal in those state?
I'm not saying everyone in the north was against it, I'm not saying everyone in the south was for it.
Just saying that Lee took a leadership role in a war that was fought to maintain the rights to own other human beings.
What was the first southern state to ratify the 13th?

Saying he didn't fight for it, well that is factually incorrect.
YES, I am saying Lee did NOT fight for slavery as a fact. He fought for his home state of Virginia and that is all there is to it. Had Virginia gone with the north in april, of '61, then Robert E. Lee would have been the 18th president of the U.S. and it would not have taken 4 years to end that war.

Bottom line is I only put a few men above Robert E. Lee. You and Mitch don't even come close.

So Himmler, who exterminated Jews in Nazi Germany, wasn't that bad a guy because he believed in Germany?

Wrong. Lee's sole reason was that he could not fight against his own family and home state of Virginia. Please read his memoirs.
ETA: Had Virginia gone with the north, you would be praising him. That is how thin the line was.

No. Lee was not a bad guy and there was no genocide of slaves in the south.

Yes. HE FOUGHT FOR THE WRONG SIDE.
As a Virginian, he is a great citizen. As a human, he helped his state fight for the right to own other human beings.

Nice OT handle. Please tell me where it was derived? I'm waiting.
ETA: Sorry, it's getting late and I had to play that card. Good discussion anyway! But, I'm still waiting.

Yes. By your reasoning he should be forgiven because he was just doing what is right by his homeland.

Do you want me to defend how I am better than Lee or Landrieu because of how the LSU mascots were named?
We are probably still judging different levels of shitbags when I am introduced.
Am I the best shitbag? Who knows. I just know I never fought to kill people so I could own someone else.

So shallow and self righteous
Of all the millions of poor souls who lost their lives to their own brothers, how many do you think were actual fighting to kill in order to own someone else?
I think it is time now to show some respect for those that were thrust into that conflict. And the Great Robert E. Lee was one of them.
ETA: Good night. And good fight.

As you said, he chose to side with Virginia. He wasn't "thrust" into shite.
