were you guys after work players or lunch bunchers?
I did both. When I played there alot it was in the summers and during a year I took off of school, so I played all the time. But I eventually had the same experience as you. I enjoyed waxing the high school kids for a couple of years, but then I got old and quit going. Those were some good times though.

Not really - I was there in the 80s and it was snooty - the school liked to portray itself as college prep pipeline to the Ivy Leagues.
I disagree. I remember going to my cousin's ESA graduation. In the program were listed the colleges that each student was going to attend and Ivy League schools were very well represented.
At about the same time, I read the Advertiser listing of the valedictorians of eac area HS, and it was nothing but LSU, USL, USL, LSU,LSU, with the occasional Ole Miss or Centenary or Nicholls.
Furthermore, I have run into several Ascension kids I went to school with over the years and a very high percentage of them are successful professionals and businessmen, much moreso than the public or Catholic school kids.
And I don't know what your perspective is on the so-called "elite" neighborhoods, but the mentality is very different now than it was in the 70's and 80's.

I grew up with several kids who went to ESA and they've turned out like you said. It is a high quality institution focusing on academics with very small class sizes. I wish I'd gone there and if I lived in Lafayette, my kids would be going to ESA.

Golden China was the best chinese restaurant.
What was the name of the BBQ place next to Burger King on Johnston? Or the mexican place on Bertrand and Congress that is now a Blockbuster?

That Mexican place was Cisco's Hacienda, or something like that.
You are right: Golden China was head and shoulders better than any other Chinese place in town.

Anyone remember the original Japanese restaurant in town, Peking Gardens? Had the little bridge to cross over as soon as you walked through the door, cheesey Christmas lights, dimly lit, old wood paneling from the 60's?
Take you back at all?.............
Hasn't changed ONE BIT in 40 yrs. Cheese factor is high, still trip on the bridge, but at least I toss a penny in the little river.

Hey, don't knock it. The food was good and the concept is what Benihana makes a fortune off of.

Not really knockin' it, b/c the food quality is consistently good and the family is very respectable. But the decor
They need to modernize/update at least a little. Check out Shangri La. When they got rid of their big Chinese buffet and put in Hibachi grills with good, entertaining chefs, they (almost) single-handedly exploded the hibachi-style dining scene in Lafayette.
