The big question is why DOTD did not install traffic lights prior to the completion of the bridge. It is not like they didn’t have over an extra year to construct the thing.

There is some traffic signal change order work remaining, but we are not going to hold up the bridge opening for that. There was a conflict with the mast arm, and some things had to be moved around. The bridge will open with some of the temp traffic control still in place until the final signal is installed.

Its still seems like four years is a long time to replace that bridge. And its a year overdue. I'm sure you have excuses to normalize all of this too, but I understand the OPs frustration.

I have projects that are way overdue as well, and it has nothing to do with the public entities that control them. OP is ignorantly painting with a very broad brush with what appears to be no understanding of how things happen.
I have no clue about the specific delays with this bridge, but I can assure you way more people than DOTD have a hand in it.

No not that one.
It was this one on the other the other side of the canal in Bourg.
It was this one:
Now it looks like this:
Minus the construction signs and port o let.

Bruh, the bridge you posted is in Lockport.

The consultant is still doing the study.

I was thinking about that too maybe they needed to do another traffic study to see if one still needed to be there. But the placement of the stop sign and warning stop ahead is just awful you cannot see it with the bridge and shrubbery in the way.

Yeah but historical precedent makes it very easy to paint most projects that involve LADOTD as a failure.

But if you're ignorant to the how and why, why do you get to decide there's a history of failure that is their fault?

It’s LADOTD. Everything that they touch either gets delayed or neglected entirely.

LADOTD is useless. And extremely bloated.
Maybe not the cause of this particular issue but you are 100% correct.

The people who blow through stop signs are the same ones who'll blow through a light.

None of their 4,000+ employees commissioned the multi-year traffic light study in time. They were too busy ignoring the maintenance needs of the rest of the state.

LADOTD is probably not the ones responsible for any of that.
City and Parish roads and bridges are usually the ones neglected and crumbling, then the state has to come in and fix the mess. And then the state gets shite on because your local politicians don't understand the importance of maintenance before something breaks.

Case in point: it's the city and Parish governments that are responsible for most of the roadways and bridge maintenance.

In Louisiana, the neglect is near universal. In fact the state and federal highways are often worse.

No, no they aren't.

100% true. And the state routes aren’t just neglected from a maintenance standpoint….but are mostly functionally obsolete in my area.
And LADOTD is a bloated, self servicing organization with at least twice the salaried manpower that they need.

What area and what roads/bridges?
Let's have a look see at who's responsible
