Have had plenty of experience with Frenchies so here’s a PSA for any newbies wanting one or getting begged for one.
They aren’t low maintenance. Not only the breathing issues, especially dangerous when it’s warm out, but they are prone to skin infections and allergies. Ears and face folds need regular maintenance. They may need regular allergy shots.
Like any breed some can be temperamental. Making that regular maintenance extra stressful or expensive.
They don’t just sit around being cuddly. Frenchies can be crazy hyper and a lot to handle even in a small apartment. They were bred from dwarf bulldogs and rat terriers.
They are generally smart enough to be trained well but can be more stubborn than other breeds, meaning more training time. They can also be very clingy and needy, not independent.
They are overall sweet and loyal dogs that need a lot of TLC and attention. It’s a shame that many people get them solely for their looks and don’t know what they’re getting into.

Preach!
So many people get a breed for all the wrong reasons, DO YOUR HOMEWORK, and find a dog that fits your lifestyle. My home has become the home of many rescues because the previous owners were ill equipped to handle certain breeds.
I am old school and find Auburn or Cornell vets have a good handle on what you are really getting into. Not sure where the younger vets are getting educated from.

fear for the breed as they are borderline trendy. I just rescue an apartment Aussie -- she loves being a country dog.
They need land to roam. We rescued a border collie/ Aussie Shepard mix and hes the smartest, most athletic dog I’ve ever seen but requires plenty of attention playing fetch, and room to burn energy… like multiple hours of sprinting per day
