On a serious note, have only watched it once. Too emotional.

I remember watching it my sophomore year of HS in SW Va in '00 and there wasn't a single emotional affected person in the classroom except for the 2-3 usual frickheads.

Two of that there is in jail from drugs and the other is dead because of drugs. They were not necessary for the advancement of 'merica- aVatiger 5-20-17

Shelby Foote, on the documentary and in his writings, made your arse feel as though you were present and accounted for at the battle or in the middle of it all.

Can't say enough good about old Shelby.

So I'm a huge fan of his Baseball series but never watched the Civil War one because I thought it would be too political/ liberal leaning like baseball got at times. Have I made a huge mistake? Is it a fair story of history?

Yes. So is Baseball. Sorry so much talk about actual events surrounding Jackie Robinson and Kurt Flood's careers triggered you. I'll let Ken know to keep cultural and social significance and context to a minimum in his docs going forward.

All this bull shite in New Orleans has spurred me to watch this documentary

Spoiler alert: no matter how many documentaries you watch, the North always wins.
