Picks up through the month.
There's a viewing deck for this brave enough to hike out to the falls.

That younger one on top of the falls looks like he's just learning

Thanks Roger! I used to have that link and couldn't find it a few days ago when I looked. Have you actually been to that park?

He was a quick study, snatched the salmon right out of the air/

Yep, 15 years ago. Theses a sqatchie trail to the falls, but the bears also share that trail. You come within a few feet of some. There's few vids on the net about it.
Katmai is fly-in.

Pretty cool...I need to get off my arse and see some of that stuff before life passes me by.
Gotta remember not to eat a sardine sammich for lunch before going there, though.

You can get flights there from Anchorage if you don't mind small planes. Bears rule Katmai, it would be easy to spent a week there at various spots including Novarupta
quote:
The 1912 eruption that formed Novarupta was the largest to occur during the 20th century. It began on June 6, 1912, and culminated in a series of violent eruptions. Rated "6" on the Volcanic Explosivity Index,[3] the 60-hour-long eruption expelled 13 to 15 cubic kilometers (3.1 to 3.6 cu mi) of ash, 30 times as much as the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens.
It's an extremely fascinating place and gets few visitors

Golly, fishing is even boring when a bear does it.
