It is kind of big. I think a 4 ton and my house is 1500 sq ft. I don’t understand why that’s the case.

Yikes - how old is your house, how leaky & how well insulated is it? If you have a reasonably “tight house” in regards to air infitration, and just average insulation, 4 tons is way oversized for 1500 sq ft. If that’s the case, I would expect a lot of short cycling of your system (= frequent starts & stops) & poor humidity control. In HVAC, more & bigger is not better.

74 during the day and 70 when sleeping.

Both my wife and I are on the lower side of normal for BMI so those temps are comfortable for us.

It was built in 85. I got a good deal last year on the ac. $6500 for the inside and outside unit.

That’s sounds about right. We leave ours on 73 all summer and 68 in winter. We have our units serviced at least once a year… sometimes twice.

Well that is a good price, I’m assuming installed.
