re: Just how bad was early 90s New Orleans?

Maybe I’m all 3 of what you list bc I can think of nothing redeeming about this city. Horrible gov, infrastructure, crime and employment. They can’t even synchronize the lights downtown. Can’t wait to retire and get out. This is more than the safety this post is about, but in general about how bad the city is.

I had just started at the DAs office in Nov of 93 and the workload was insane. It was more process than anything else as we were all about making and effecting plea bargains with a rare case that would actually go to trial....not that today is probably any different.

My greatest fear at that time were the police.....there were a sizeable minority of them you could not trust. Plus factor in that the community was less than helpful with us.. But in 94 we were dealing with greater than 1 murder a day as well as other violent crime. 60-70 hr work weeks were routine.

Yeah, some of these posters I feel want to carry on for drama's sake. In 1994 we would have found 34 murders per 100,000 people more than manageable from a prosecution standpoint. We were however pretty damn good at nailing carjackers. Especially after we popped Johnny DeJesus who ran a junkyard/ chop shop in New Orleans East. Not that they stopped, but we got a handle on it. There was good money in used parts at the time.
