Jewish southern history museum is great. Go to pretty much any small town in the south and you will the legacy of Jewish business names on Main Street.
I think a difference is you were largely on an island with a very small Jewish community living in the south so by necessity there was a less self contained community.
But I do hope Tulane benefits here. Tulane and New Orleans really have a perfect combination of a robust Jewish community, but not so big it doesn’t mingle and flow with the broader city at large.
That's pretty much it. There's a large enough Jewish population that they don't feel alone, but not a large enough population to form a separate enclave. In the south, they are people that worship on Saturday rather than Sunday and have blue lights up during the holidays. It's not a big deal. There's no negative or positive connotation to be Jewish. That's why I think the younger generation were relieved when they came here and realized being a "Jew" wasn't really important to most people. Relieves a lot of pressue from both the in and out groups.

That's the key, see people as individuals.

100% true. There are more Yankees at Bama than Southerners, tons of Jewish kids. They love going to school in the south

I would be in favor of forcing a 70/30 native/out of state acceptance rule.
How about you stay out of it, and let people make their own decisions? Public schools are a different matter, and they generally have rules like that.
