I’ll be treating myself to a late model JK (‘13 - ‘17) this spring and am wondering if I should spend the extra on a Rubicon.

I primarily will be using it to public land camp/hunt and will be towing a 4x6 cargo trailer in which I keep my camping rig. I usually don’t have to do any serious 4-wheeling, but I got my F150 stuck about 15 miles from civilization back in December...those locking differentials would have been super handy.

Are there any offroad upgrades besides the lockers?

Sure thing. It’s easy now a days with 8 year financing.

You can get a cheaper vehicle with front and rear locking diffs. You may find a leftover 2018 ZR2 Chevy Colorado pickup on discount.

Very capable vehicle.

If ya go 15 miles from anywhere huntin camping etc then I recommend a warren winch and a gear box. Chains rope a trenching tool pulleys etc. You can go full bug out gear if ya want to but a gear box tends to collect useful stuff anyways.

Electronic disconnecting sway bars, Dana 44 up front, and I may be wrong but 4.11 gears.other than that, it's no different than a sport.

Jeeps are the only vehicles I have always sold for more money than I paid for them. Some schmuck will pay more for it in the spring. Oh wait...you are buying in the spring? Yeah, that’s when I’d be selling my current one. Always sell in the spring and a week before Cruising on the Coast in MS and you will actually make money.

I saw the sway bar, but my enemies are mud & ruts. Isn’t the sway bar disconnect primarily for rock crawling?

It allows for better suspension articulation, yeah mainly a rock crawling thing.

Agreed...I had a 2007 Sport that was all decked out with a 3” lift, bumpers & winch. I gave $18,500 for it in 2012 and sold it for the same price in 2015.

It was amazing.

I could probably get at least that for it today.

Jeeps are the #1 vehicle in the world for resale value. It makes no sense to me, they are pieces of shite (coming from a jeep owner)

ETA: I was wrong, tacos are #1

This is correct with lockers too. However might have 3.73 axle ratio if automatic unless 4.10 option selected. Stock tires are mud vs street for other models. Also Rubicon has some type of rock rail vs step. Depends upon mods made or you plan to add. I liked my Rubicon because it came stock with most of what needed.

The new JL's are pretty damn nice. I'm trading mine in for one in a few months. Jeep finally added some new tech and creature comforts and the ride is much better.
