The problem with this application of slippery slope is that it’s assuming that the country is filled with nothing but the right and left. The reality is that a solid 50% of the population is apathetic. So, when you throw a tantrum over some minor issue, they don’t view you as a patriot holding the line against the enemy; they view you as a petulant child who should be ignored.

Put another way, the “slippery slope” braying is likely to create a self fulfilling prophecy in which you lose more ground than you otherwise would have if you had kept your seat at the table.
