The video was filmed pretty well imo. You're just another pussy cop who is afraid of opening his eyes to what is happening irl
Your right. I am just a pussy that has no idea what is happening irl. I personally don't make traffic stops unless there is a violation committed in front of me or the vehicle is stolen or was used in a felony. I wouldn't have even made that stop because I don't ride around running plates if there is no infraction because that is a very gray area to justify a stop. I have no idea how things work in Ohio.

and there you have it folks.

Ya right! first of all I am sure you do run plates unless you suck at your job and if you run a plate and the person has a warrant, the car is stolen, its not registered or tons of other things it makes the stop a clean one. Tard.

Depends on the state. A "hunch" is not enough. Add in other attributable reasons that become a totality of the circumstances then you can be stupid and identified. Multiple cases on reasonable suspicion stops, both involving vehicles and persons.
Does I think you are the person in this picture that has warrants count as a "hunch"? Or do they have to have a "hunch" that you are in the process of committing a crime?

I thought I was pretty clear when I said I didn't watch the entire video. I come to this site for entertainment and not to watch videos that make me ill because they are filmed so badly. Who in the fook are you anyway? You just joined this site yet speak to me as if you have been here reading my posts for years.
Dear Dan -- It does not take much time to identify imbecilic traits.
I read Iowa boards too, but I like this board best.

And you would be wrong. Do you ever let anyone else drive your car? Stopping a vehicle just because the owner has warrants or attachments is, again, a gray area. I do my job by the book so if a driver commits no infraction I don't make a stop. You can throw that out the window if there is a bolo out for the vehicle but that would have nothing to do with me running the plate.

If there is a picture on file that matches the subject that would justify requiring the subject to provide id.

So I guess the main mistake in this case was that the cop never justified his request for ID by letting the man know that he matched a picture of a suspect having warrants?
So it seems that the man had no legal reason to identify himself, yet the officer had a legal reason for the him to provide ID, he just never communicated the reason.

I agree with you on that point unless there is some sort of threat involved. Maturity on the part of the officer has a great deal to do with this. I don't have any concern for personal insults thrown at me as they have nothing to do with the issue at hand. If I were to stop you to write a citation and you called me every name in the book I wouldn't detain you any longer or treat you unprofessionally. I would, admittedly, be more likely to write you a ticket instead of issuing a warning but that would be the only difference.

Do all black people look alike?

I would agree with that from the small portion of the video I watched. I often ask all occupants for Id but if passengers refuse and I have no reason to suspect they have warrants, attachments, or are holding something I simply let it go and let them keep ther id

Not to me. I know you are kidding but there are ways to identify people from pictures by looking at the spread between the eyes and other identifying markers

Yeah, it was tongue in cheek, but it does seem like it has become a cliche. "Police on the lookout for a black male between 5'8" and 6'2""
To some extent my bias is probably showing, but in the video signs seemed to point to the officer harrassing this man due to racial profiling and attitude and not much else. The cop just seemed to be desperately grasping at ideas to justify what he was doing.

My personal opinion is the officer in question was being a smartass in response to a dumbass. Then, as many people do, both sides got emotional.
Having said that. I know of people in my beats that have warrants. I also know people that often have warrants on any given week (depending on the court dockets). I have also articulated certain acts and behaviors that the court deemed sufficient to justify a reasonable suspicion of criminal activity. The key is knowing your job, your law, your environment and being able to document and reference all three while acting as a LEO during individual incidents. If that was a legal stop, identifying all occupants is valid. My question is did the officer know the registered owner from the registration check was indeed the driver? I can do that with my in car computer for in state drivers. Can that officer? Did he document that he did that?
Those that know me know I'm a smartass. I try not to be when working unless I'm dealing with a reasonable person that is not taking it personally. If I'm dealing with an unreasonable a-hole, I am a different person. There will only be one unreasonable a-hole on my video. It will not be me. For everyone not a cop, if you deal with an unreasonable a-hole cop try taking the same approach. Be the reasonable person to the camera, witnesses etc.
