I'm Hispanic but will only put it down if it benefits me. I just look tan. My family came to Louisiana while it was "New Spain".

Some are. Those of pure Spanish decent are Caucasian. But most of the Hispanics we see here are of a mixed decent of Spanish, Native American, and/or African decent depending on what part of Central or South America they come from.

I had to look that one up myself. I knew people from Brazil are of Portuguese decent. But I didn't know they had their own category...

quote:

Lusitanic is a term used to categorize persons who share the linguistic and cultural traditions of the Portuguese-speaking nations, territories, and populations, including Portugal, Brazil, Macau, Timor-Leste, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Guinea Bissau and others, as well as the Portuguese diaspora generally. It is the Portugal-related equivalent of Spain-related Hispanic, and both words are most often used to refer to their respective diasporas in the Western Hemisphere specifically. Depending upon contextual usage, both may be included within the meaning of Latino.

This appears to be the most reasonable explanation.

Well, my wife is Mexican and she says she is not white. But at the same time, is Hispanic really 'non-caucasian'? I think not...
