I don’t necessarily want to leave the group (as I believe that notifies other group members).

I’ve “muted” the conversation, but will still see multiple texts coming through on the red circle above the messenger app/logo.

Is there a different way … or another way to ignore/block it without technically leaving the group?

Click the group while in the chat and toggle “hide alerts”.

You could turn off badges completely under notifications. That is an all or nothing solution, and It seems like you use badges which is why the group notifications that increase the number get in the way.

You might try removing them from your contacts and then filter out unknown contacts, but I honestly can’t remember how filtered unknowns affect badge counts on the app icon. Also if you need communicate with them individually you will have to remember which number is there’s.

Can try setting up a focus with the only people and apps you want to receive notifications from and then filter by people list to only show those notifications and also only those people in the app (not listed are just hidden and still available). Badges for texts from people not on list don’t show for me when I have a focus on, but I use it for small groups like to only receive from family, bank charge alerts, and credit card alerts when I need to limit notifications and don’t use a Focus that often.

EDIT: actually you can set up a focus to silence notifications only from specific people on top of what I mentioned earlier - to allow only from certain people while silencing everyone else. Stops you from having to allow everyone but them. You would still need to see if stops them from appearing on badge counts on messages apps.

Then turn on that focus full time or just when the group starts messaging back and forth over and over.
