I recently had the same problem. The Louisiana DMV flagged my license due to "lapse in insurance" which turned out to be complete bullshite.
What. The. Hell. The same thing is going on with me right now. Currently live in Florida, but they send me an invoice from 3 years ago to an address I haven't lived at in 3 years. It was $525 for "lapse of insurance" on my motorcycle. It eventually went to debt recovery before I found out about it. Called my insurance company in Florida and got them to fax proof I was insured from the day I stopped being insured in Louisiana, and they then claim that the progressive company is different in Louisiana than it is in Florida, and they conveniently don't recognize the Florida subsidiary.
Long story short, I got them to take it out of debt recovery and they arbitrarily say I owe $125. I was going to pay it before I just read your post. Now, I'm going to fight this shite. It is completely bogus, but I was tired of fighting it. Not going to give in to the abuse

It's not quite that simple. The LADR is dysfunctional right now, and them pulling this kind of shite is not necessarily uncommon.

Fight it. It's completel bullshite. I ended up speaking with one of the top representatives at USAA, and he explained to me that Louisiana is the only state that's been doing it.... Go figure.
