Is there a 911 lite?

This is just a hypothetical...
Say you have a roommate who threatens to do something with a gun. Shoot themself or shoot you, who knows?
Hypothetically, you’re concerned enough to where you feel like you need some sort of help. 911 feels like overkill. Who do you call?

you can call the police department without dialing 911.

I don't think your story qualifies. Use 911.
In my city, I can call 311 for non-emergency things. I do this to break up any fights at work (rare enough, but I do run a bar). Police come quickly enough so that I can ban known people officially.

That should be everywhere. Easy enough to remember, and don’t have to worry about over loading the emergency system. I worked a similar job and hated having to find the city police department number, and go through the whole prompt while the drunk truck driver is yelling obscenities and making threats he can’t physically pull off.

You would be amazed at the amount of people that call 911 for icy less. “Is this ____ road closed?” Or about stray dogs, or because their unruly 12 yr old won’t go to bed
