Since we're taking down statues of former Confederate military figures, are we going to completely erase history by changing the names of the Parishes named after them or other slave owners?

Allen Parish: Henry Watkins Allen, the Confederate governor of Louisiana
Beauregard Parish: Confederate general P. G. T. Beauregard
Caldwell Parish: Named for the Caldwell family, which owned a large plantation and remains politically active in the state. (Owned Slaves)
Jackson Parish: U.S. President Andrew Jackson (Owned Slaves)
Jefferson Davis Parish: Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States of America

On that note...are we going to have to demolish the old plantations due to their role in slave labor in America?

Might as well rename the state. Didn't Louis XIV implement the Code Noir?

I assume if they get any fed funds or tax breaks due to historical designation, they'r fair game.

This whole thing is ridiculous. You can't rewrite the past because you don't like it.

You can, however influence the future by what you do in the present. How do you think these idiots are influencing the future? Certainly not in a positive way, I can tell you that.

I'm just waiting for the idiots to go for Andrew Jackson. Hope they don't like the $20 bill if that happens.

That's one of the main purposes of history...to remind us of mistakes made in the past which can be prevented in the future. Stop teaching it, forget it, and it does't do anyone any good.

Martin L. King Parish 2
Martin L. King Parish 3
Obama Parish
Michelle Obama Parish
Jordan Parish
Oprah Parish
Minaj Parish
JJ Walker Parish

You must have missed that Harriet Tubman kicked his arse off the $20 bill.
Thanks Obama.
