I've had great luck selling vehicles on Autotrader. Please note that I live in a large metropolitan area so YMMV.

I have sold 6 cars on CL. You do have to filter out the flakes though.
1. Make the ad very detailed. Puts lots of pictures.
2. DO NOT PUT YOUR phone number in the ad. Way too many spam bots.
3. Do not discuss price until the person comes to drive the car.
4. I have asked for and given money to a private seller to hold the car for me. When the person would not give me a small amount of cash to hold it, I told them I would continue to try and sell it up to the hour they came. Once, I sold the car 2 hours before the original guy got off work. He refused to give me money to hold it, so I did not. $$$$ in hand wins everytime.
5. Always meet at a bank to transfer funds. I prefer to meet at the buyers bank, so we all know the money is good.
If my car was rare or expensive (20k), I would prob use Autotrader.

I sold my last truck on Craigslist and got top dollar for it. When i wrote up the ad I put a ton of pictures of the exterior and interior of the truck. Sold it for $18,500 so it's not impossible just took a couple of months.

I would try posting it on Craigslist and putting a sign up before I spent money on it. Try posting it on Louisiana Sportsman. My friend sold his truck on there last year.

When I was selling my car in March, a coworker said the same thing about Craigslist.

My brother just sold his 650Ci on CL and it retailed at 24k. They went to the bank to have the $$ wired and he dropped my brother off in his new ride.
You do get some shady people though texting you all through the night.

Just list on the CL ad that you will respond to texts only. It cuts out most of the crap. Of done CL marketing for a long time.

I sold an Infiniti G35 on CL last month. Posted on CL, Cars.com, and Autotrader. The only emails/calls I got from Autotrader were dealers. Ended up selling to a dude from CL. Include a ton of pictures and info. Weirdo retards don't like to read.

What kind of offers did you receive? How low were they compared to your asking price?
