It is not technology's function to make us happier. It is technology's function to make our lives and daily tasks easier.

But you're more productive than ever. The robots and AI are going to really change things over the next 10-20 years. You think the masses are unhappy and addicted to social media now, just wait until the standard work week is below 30 hours and you have even more idle time where you're forced to figure out how to be happy rather than how you're going to survive.

If you think a simpler life would make you happier you can have a simpler life now. But people don't want a simpler life, they want a perfect life, and that is what makes them unhappy, because there is no such thing.

I have lived through a lot of change and I would say a definite " NO " to this making us happier.
