i need between 30 minutes and 6 hours of alone time after or before work every day

Yep. I would pull out my phone, pretending to text or pretend to take a call saying, “Hey ! Doing good, how about you and your family?” With as many possible “Uh-huh’s” and “yeah’s”cued up for use since calls can drop on an elevator.

I just get tired of the same filler-talk about the weather and weekend plans. It interrupts my thinking about more productive things. When I’m working, I am not thinking about the weather or weekend plans. I’m thinking about solving work issues. I give others the same courtesy by assuming they are engaging in productive thoughts that I have no desire to interrupt.
Now that I’m retired, I mind small talk less. It’s also an opportunity to joke around and try to get a laugh.
Evidently I was just a dedicated worker and was not doing it for introverted reasons. I think I was an efficiency snob.
