You haven’t taught me or my underwriters anything buddy. I don’t employ underwriters, the carriers do.

So what do you do as an agent? Blindy fax the info to the carrier? Hand out business cards and smile? Naw baw, if you are good, you are managing this process. Doesn't sound like you do that.

Edit: I'm in sales and I manage vendors and it sounds like you are perhaps the crapiest salesman ever.

Fax? Is this 1990? There are zero agents in the country that have underwriters in house. UW department is separated for a reason. we interact with them daily on behalf of our clients. Agents are primarily a sales channel and if you’re great at what you do, you help mitigate personal and business risk by educating your clients on what is and isn’t protected, if certain products are a good fit and help find solutions even if it’s not with your agency.

I’ve been in the top 1% of agency for the last five years, my annual bonus is more than you make in an entire year. No one cares that you’re in sales and “manage” vendors

I don’t know what any of his post has to do with me explaining that underwriters and agents are separate and that’s intentional. That’s insurance 101

I can count on one hand the amount of keyboard warriors that have actually tried to resolve issues in person with me. They are brave with the threats on email and text though. Just like this thread

I’m from Louisiana but I’m 36. I’ve been around insurance my entire life just never dealt with the smaller carriers. Grandfather was an agent in New Orleans for 35 years.

Champion started the trend of comissioners going to jail until donelon.

Look up "Champion" the book.

Worth the read. Even told from the rambling perspective of a divorcé.

Two of my friends went to jail over it. One wrongfully. One correctly. Funny how that works.

He himself is in sales yet keeps posting dumb, dated sales references from movies that are completely irrelevant

Do you live in Michigan? That sounds like a Michigan policy.

Their system is so fricke

I live in Louisiana. I drive work cars that are very dependable but don't need comp or collision. If they are wrecked, I pay for the repair if minor or toss them. It is not worth having comp or collision. I carry high liability limits on my liability.

On my old cars, which are nice, I carry full coverage. It is cheap.

Agent says I can suspend coverage and keep plate. I don't want to do it, but I finally relent. Agent ends up cancelling the policy and DMV sends me notice.

Agent missed a step where you suspend the registration with the tag office.

I don't think the tag office permits an agent to do that for you.

And you are the definition as to why an agent wouldn't move forward until you prove in writing that the step is complete. In Georgia, eventually you'd be driving your car with a bench warrant out against you.

I doubt the agent was trying to sell you something with the advice.
But his order of operations royally screwed you over.

In FL you can suspend certain coverages and keep only the state minimum requirements bs suspending the policy. We used to have withdrawn from use for snowbirds, but they took that away last year.

He was not trying to sell me something with the suspension. I only meant that the policy review is really just a tactic to get you in the office to try and sell you some other type of insurance I.e. life insurance, boat, etc.
He was trying to help I guess but yes, he completely dropped the ball with the suspension and screwed me.

It can be, but if you have a good agent he's trying to protect your assets, and yes that could mean you might need another policy. Assets change and if you're doing it right you will always need to buy more insurance because you as the customer are worth more each year.
