An Indonesian mother has died after being swallowed whole by a 23-foot-long python

The woman, Wa Tiba, 54, went missing while tending to her vegetable garden near her village on Muna Island in Southeast Sulawesi province on Thursday, according to the village chief, Faris.

When her family went to look for her, they found only her belongings in the garden, including her sandals, a machete and a flashlight.

Keep in mind pythons are fast becoming he apex predator in the Everglades thanks to people releasing their pet pythons there.

Wonder how many have been released in the swamps of Louisiana?

Not sure how many are in Louisiana.

I bet there’s a good 30,000-50,000 in Florida

Hurricane damage accidental releases also contributed. In tropical FL they are a real problem. Eat everything in sight. Inching northward as their range expands. They could survive far up as Tampa area - climate is favorable.

Better hope none are loose in SoLA.

I saw a news story recently where the state of Florida declared open season on pythons and offered a bounty on each one killed. I can’t reember exactly but I think they ended up killing hundreds or thousands.

They did but they can’t kill em off fast enough in the glades.

Heard one of the zoo Miami guys say they’ve also found baboons and a cobra in the glades before amongst other things

[quotethey ended up killing hundreds or thousands.[/quote]Not nearly so many killed. The hundreds of thousands has to to with actual population estimates. I wish that many had been killed. Real numbers of killed more in low four figures. They are extremely elusive. We need a bunch of LA people down here to hunt em to extinction. What kind of roux would be good with python gumbo?

Not sure how they’d fare against a big croc. But they can kill a gator.

But the gators don’t always lose.

Guess it all depends on if a big gator finds a smaller python or a big python finds a smaller gator.

A significant Python population will never take hold, much less thrive, in the Louisiana swamps and marshes for one simple reason,"First we make a roux"!

Bigger gators can typically when if they can catch their head, yet the python will continue the wrap it’s body around the gator at that point thr python may be wounded and die then the gator may or may not let up and strike again

In other words don’t frick with the wildlife

Yeah. That pic has been around a while. I can’t remember the story with it but I think it was that the python killed and swallowed the gator. But as it started to digest, gasses made it bloat to the point the python basically split open.

I read somewhere that 90% of the Everglades’ mammal life has vanished in the past 20 years due to Pythons.

I really don’t understand having a damn snake as a pet.
