Fortunately no other plane was in line to land on that runway. With my luck another plane would have hit us in the arse.

Ever been in a car with someone else driving, bus, boat etc.?

The pilots flying those planes are infinitely better at their jobs than you are driving.

At least it ended better than the demonstration of the at the time "new" Airbus 320 at the Paris Airshow. The plane's computer put the plan in a stall protection mode which overrode the pilots control inputs preventing the plane from climbing resulting in it crashing into the trees. The pilot had extensive experience test flying the plane, conditions on the airfield forced him into a situation where the plane would be operating outside of normal parameters, although he knew the plane was capable of doing what was needed the computer locked him out. Boeing and Airbus have quite different philosophies concerning operational "laws" in fly by wire systems, I much prefer Boeing's

To be fair, that is a little inaccurate. The safety mechanism activated when it shouldn't have, which is kind of the opposite of "safe."
Not the opposite of safe, but definitely erring on the side of caution.
