In the market for a home security system around the BR area that won't break the bank. I met with one company yesterday at my home that wanted almost $1000 up front for all doors and windows and then $30 per month for a 3 year contract (wireless system). Is this a normal price up front? I have 3 doors and 16 windows in my home. I thought it was kinda pricey, but I haven't had a security system in a very long time. I'm trying to stay away from major up front costs.

Any OT recommendations would be appreciated!

Plenty of companies that will install the equipment "free of charge" if you sign a contract.

You'll get plenty of people who say a contract isn't worth it. I believe there are advantages to both ways.

Go check the tech board. They have much cheaper do-it-yourself alternatives that you might find useful. Stuff like ring, indoor/outdoor cameras, etc.

If you are a DYI'er you can do much cheaper and use text alerts instead of a monitoring service. I have security cameras that record motion and send me text alerts during certain hours (to monitor delivered packages at the front door). Much cheaper than $2,080 over 3 years!

I use Simplisafe. Cost around $600 total and I installed it myself (there are cheaper packages). The monitoring is $15 per month

Just get a pit like everyone else in the trailer park.

Sure. I'll get a pit for my 3000 sq ft. trailer - right after you quit fricking your sister.
