The date of Christmas was set because it is exactly 9 months from the Feast of Annunciation and it is near the Winter Solstice (which has symbolic significance).
Easter is set based on a lunisolar calendar similar to Passover and the Hebrew calendar.

Christmas is early because thanksgiving is early this year
