Be willing start at the bottom, out perform others around you, and you will rise quickly.

I'm thinking about going the oil & gas route as well but looking at moving out of the south. Have been looking at jobs in Colorado but it seems like you either have to have minimum 2+ years experience or a specialized degree.

So you think 5 years of lab work and a masters degree in environmental science should get you an oilfield job? wtf indeed...

You should have no problems getting into consulting. Are you dropping off resumes?

Go back to the first page and read the second reply. Most of the people in this thread have no idea what they are talking about.

I know more than most about this topic, especially with his degree. With a masters degree in environmental sciences and an undergrad in biology, if he's dropping off resumes, he should get a call from someone. Yeah it would be very easy if he knew someone, but that type of educational credentials should easily get him at least a callback.

Environmental is huge right now in O&G.

I assume it means they have some shite job with shite pay and they met some half retarded redneck thats pulling 150g's and they want in.

fricking this. there are a quiazillion different aspects of the Oil and Gas industry. At then end of the day, almost everyone I know is somehow, someway connected to the industry. Very few are no and those people are Drs, pharm reps, in the restaurant business, some lawyers and CPAs. If you live in South La or Texas, chances are you're someway connected to the oilfield industry

All those are still indirectly related and would be affected by a downturn.

True, but I was more or less referring to day to day business.

But you are right, when the industry slumps everyone feels it it

No. What do you want to do in O&G? Why do you want to work in O&G. I'm just tired of people saying generically I want to work in O&G. Thats of zero help.

I never made the general inquiry. I stated my background which is on the environmental side of things. Can you help in that regard? I wanted to get in on the environmental side of o and g eventually since it seems like I would have to gain the experience consulting
