Happened to my wife and I over a year ago. I was really shocked at what the value of totaled vehicles was, 4X what blue book value had been 6 months earlier.
What shocked me even more was at first using Lyft to get around (wife bedridden for a month and my right knee had issues) was if traveling locally ride share was cheaper than owning even a cheap junker vehicle.

Just happened to me. We bought my youngest a car. Drove it for 4.5 years, someone hits it and insurance totaled it. We got more than we initially paid for the car, even after driving it for 4 years. We did okay with that, but I knew the used market is inflated.
I couldn't replace the car for what they gave us if I bought the exact same vehicle, with the current mileage, year, etc; if we could find one. We bought a little bit better car, with miles comparable to what was on the first car when we purchased it. It ended up costing double. to go from a 2012 to a 2018.
