This is something that businesses are really taking advantage of now...
Like 6 years ago I could have made 20k more in my field starting than I could when I left grad school 3 years ago. Cyclical markets are cyclical...

So i'm not going to read through 40+ pages since I last checked this thread. Is the OP going to let us know what happened?

Have you ever been around one of these people? Or worked with them? They have a sense of entitlement because of all the coddling. There's less of a work ethic because there is no consequence to losing their job. Mom and Dad will give them gas and spending money until they get a new one. It absolutely affects others. I hope OM is right and they will be more driven by the time they reach 30, but who knows?

No but if you are 25+ and not married with kids you must have peter pan syndrome...

but that's very unique to his situation, the other 99% of us are going to work shite jobs

Ll. Did he not realize while he was under grad and grad what would happen when he graduated?
Srs question, not being mean.

This is true for me too. Maybe when I am a parent, my outlook will change.
I don't look at is as though "I can afford it so why not."
My dad could easily have paid for my college. Instead, I graduated with 20k in student loan debt.

It's really upsetting. Friend of mine is a teacher. And he always hears me talk about being poor, but assumed I was poor in the sense that he is.
Then one day.. I said something about my paycheck. And he said, "Oh, you get paid every week?"
And I said "No.. that's two weeks"
And he basically shite his pants. I had no idea it was that bad until he reacted the way he did. Teaching is not a high paid profession and he makes more than twice what I make.
I'm grateful I was offered a job the day I finished college, but this just isn't good.
Taco Bell had a "now hiring--up to $__/hour" sign the other day that wasn't very far off from what I make...

That's probably the case with plenty of people, but you can provide for your kids for a long time and still teach them to not be dickheads.
My SO might have his parents funding his schooling/working, but he's busting his arse in 12 hour shifts for 60+ days at a time on a boat in the middle of the gulf. And everyone he has worked with has raved about his work ethic.

My dad would have kicked my arse if I took out any loans.

He's talked about it on here. Graduated in animal science. LSU vet school takes 3 LSU students per year, and 2 must be female or foreign.
That's why El Guacho and another person I know are at vet school in St. Kitts.
Jones had no interest in going live in a foreign country for a few years (which obv his parents would still have to fund) to get a job that, honestly, isn't very well paid.
Vet field is oversaturated and not doing so well these days.
He tried Wildlife and Fisheries. Went to like 15+ interviews.. made it far in each one.. to have someone's son or cousin chosen over him. And those positions are $30k
The opportunity he has seized now he extremely more than well paid, and school is only 5 hours away in Galveston.

You are definitely right. Not every single person still in school or living at home is worthless. Just a lot of them are.

I can hire college degree straight out of school all day for $12 an hour

To me, that is just stupid. He should have set down rules though... I'll pay for school as long as you keep a 3.0 or whatever. Debt is no fun.

I would have if I needed to, but thank you TOPS.

Exactly.
I can't live on this shite.

So you're unhappy you have to work with them? Why don't you go snitch to your boss about their work ethic? Since it's so unpleasant.
Why don't you get them fired or try to fill the spot with someone that has a good work ethic. Apparently they are getting the job done.
People can be lazy even if they worked their way up, there's really no way to avoid a few bad apples.
You shouldn't judge them either way Bc if you were so very efficient, wouldn't you be the one in position to fire them?

That's always baffled me. I keep seeing jobs posted for like a receptionist or something low skill, dead end like that. $12/hr bachelor's required. Why would someone incur thousands in debt to get a degree to make that in a dead end job?
