2) The person I referenced does in fact have a job. A PT waitress while she works her way through another degree and her parents foot the bills. She has 2 degrees and has never done a thing with either.
Meh..
My SO is 32. Has a bachelor's and master's and ended up being completely unable to get a job he wanted in the field because it either required additional specialized schooling that would make him move overseas.. or he would have to work for a state department that pays MAYBE $30k and is 100% political to get into.
So he's been back in school for 2.5 years getting a completely different degree/license.
He's a very responsible person, and his parents know that. The trust his intelligence and judgment, so they have zero issue footing those bills.
If they CAN do it, why is it a big deal? He could be working some dead end shite job struggling.. or he can be doing what he is doing now, which is bettering his life and setting it up where he'll make enough to more than take care of his parents later (not that they'd need him to).
Oh.. and I'm 24. So I guess the banging young arse stereotype applies to us too

So her parents are at fault. Enablers allow a situation to occur. That's their failure as parents.
Absolutely they are. As are all of the helicopter parents who have contributed to the complacency of this generation. It doesn't excuse the behavior though. At some point you have to be responsible for yourself and your choices. Preferably before 30.

I so wish I could.
My parents were the types that would never have seen the benefit of studying abroad or anything.
As soon as I'm not living paycheck to paycheck like I seem to be doing now, I will be beginning to travel. Especially when we "get our shite together" (

Call me old fashioned, but I'd feel like a worthless POS if I'm 32 and my parents are still paying for my program.
To each their own though.

Any day now he'll be returning me for a younger model.
We got together when I was just a few weeks newly 21.

And that's you. A lot of people feel like if they can, why not? I'm not a parent, so I can't really comment on parenting. But I'd like to think I'd much rather help my child achieve the absolute best they can vs. refusing to help and watching them work shitass part time jobs and making a 3 year program last 7.

I started footing all my bills at 22. I was a senior in college and went to grad school afterward. I was lucky to have a pretty great job and I made some sacrifices in living situations to make it work, but it was gratifying to be able to completely take care of yourself.

shite jobs are just something you deal with out of college.....usually takes 5-6 years before you do anything worth a shite

What someone does before 30 or after shouldn't be anyone's business to judge. It doesn't affect you so why the harsh criticism?

I've been paying a large chunk of my bills since I moved out @ 19. They've given me and more and more of them as I went through college, and now I pay 90% of them. Only reason they still have a few things is because insurance is cheaper with them until I'm married, and my first job out of college has been the opposite of well-paid.
I actually get off in an hour to go take an exam for a job

Meh. He has an opportunity in his lap that anyone would be an idiot to refuse. He's not in "regular" school. You don't work while you go to this place. Every person at his school is supported by their family

That is what I consider being grown up.

I didn't do any studying during that year....it was more like a 12 months spring break

Wait til you've been married for about 10 years and that phrase will have a whole new meaning.
