Those riots were different. There was a lot more involved and the riots were a result of things boiling over.

Crack was an epidemic in South Central and it was brought in those areas to help fund the American backed rebels in.. I think a war in Nicaragua. The idea behind this was that in these areas there were not many police. They didn't patrol these areas much at all so it would be easy for drug selling activity.

Once crack hit, people got addicted, it became very profitable which gangs then got into. And from there, shite got real. Police militarized to fight the crime. They would use those tanks with the flat head on it to barge into people's houses and was going into the wrong houses, killing innocent people. Then the Rodney King thing happened and when those police were not charged, things boiled over.

But it would have been interesting to see what everyone thought at the time, because most people didn't know the whole situation at the time.
