Maybe, but I couldn't put it down. I thought the contrasting stories between the fair and Holmes was genius.

All of Follet's books are good, somewhat formulaic, but thoroughly enjoyable. He seems to a great research team for his historical info.

River of Doubt is a great book.

An older but good one is the Johnstown Flood by McCullough.
