I'd suggest this one if you aren't going to give any more details, cost restrictions, or preferences.

Joking half-aside, these are nice.

Depends on what you need it to do. I already have a laptop and desktop so I just got a chromebook because I only need webapps for class/homework/studying.

Latest Macbook Pro whatever size is preferred is what I'd get my boy for going to college if he was going right now.

Why are Chromebooks so cheap?? Quality?

All I need is Internet browser form TDs and smut. Word suit for school to take notes and write papers.

I think it would suit your purpose well. You don't seem to need the more complex features of more advanced laptop. It's a good price for a good quality PC that does the basics in style.

It's similar to a tablet platform but looks like a laptop. You can't install desktop applications, only web-based apps.

If you don't already have one you would have to create a gmail account (lsu hosts their email domain from gmail so I already had one) which includes docs which is a web-based microsoft office like app that would do this for you.

TD and smut comes standard.

The Lenovo ones fold back on themselves to become tablets, if that's the sort of thing you're looking for. Asus also makes a detachable one.

One guy here said he didn't like his Asus, but I always read very good things and consistently find myself recommending their products. Not that that really means anything.

The operating system on a chromebook is ChromeOS, which is essentially nothing but the goggle chrome browser. The hardware on a Chromebook is superb with the exception of the screen. The screen quality is distorted from side viewing angles. It has a solid state hard drive, an Intel Haswell processor, two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI export, and a battery life of 8 hours. If everything you plan on doing for school can be ran on the chrome browser then I would highly suggest a chromebook. If you have to open Microsoft word files then there are free extensions you can download to open them on a chromebook.

Here is a link to the Chromebook I have. the price has gone up $45 since I bought it

Dont waste your money on a Mac if you will only use it to surf the web and write papers.
