Same reason tractors have them. Supposed to keep you in the seat allowing the ROPS to protect you. If you stay in the seat you can’t be crushed by the machine. Theoretically.

How does he eat or drink anything with no urinary system or anus? Seatbelts on a forklift don’t make much sense to me. If something goes wrong you need to be able to get off in an instant and the seatbelt just prolongs that as it did here.
