The real problem is sometimes they back up down the street. The fire truck has a loud arse back-up beeper.
There is no need to back-up, the street loops back around and out of the neighborhood. They know this, because they don't always back-up, it seems they only do it at the 3 am calls

I can guarantee you that they aren't backing up for the hell of it. If there is a turnaround and they are aware of it, they'll use it. Very possibly it is another truck having to take that call from another area because the one whose district it is may be on another call. Usually maps will show if there are turnarounds. If they don't, it sucks to have to back up all the way out because you wanted to check it out just in case.
