Buddies Dad had one of those and that's where we both learned to drive a stick. If you could get that thing moving, you could drive anything

I had an 89 and loved it.. Standard transmission. I opted for the Isuzu 4 cyl engine as opposed to that GM made V6.

We have a '96 Mitsubishi Montero. 406k on the odometer. It's still on the original motor, transmission, transfer case, etc...All we have ever done to it was change the timing belt every 80k and had to replace the valve stem seals once. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country.

A few parts upgrade and these Discos can be pretty reliable. More so than the Range Rover name would imply. Manual trans versions seem to be hard to find.
