treacherous stretch of highway
Highway 2 in Montana
This 760-mile stretch of highway runs through rural areas and is prone to blizzards, high winds, and black ice in the winter. The University of Minnesota says it has the highest traffic death rate of any highway in Montana.
Dalton Highway in Alaska
This 414-mile road winds through mountains, has limited access to emergency services, and only one fuel stop.
U.S. Route 24: Toledo to Fort Wayne
This narrow road has been the site of many serious accidents over the decades, earning it the nickname "The Killway".
I-95 in Florida
This interstate has a high rate of fatal accidents involving trucks, pedestrians, and motorcycles. In 2019, it had the highest number of overall fatalities and fatalities per 100 miles in the country.
California Route 138
This 105-mile winding highway lacks shoulders and medians.
I've been on i95 in GA and SC and it's not the best pavement these days compared to other major passage ways coupled with the hilly nature, it can be a task for a trucker.
I65/i85 cutitng thru Ga/Bama heading back down to i10 or up towards Ga thru bama can be rough as there is nothing but long high hills. Driving it at night can get a little nervous. Traveling 55 or 59 heading to i20 isn't to bad.

So you Think the amount of loads are decreasing because more companies are landing contracts from transportation/logistics companies?
I wouldn’t say the amount of loads are decreasing although you do see that a lot around the end and beginning of the year. The main problem besides repairs and consumables being astronomically high is brokers. Brokers are raping owner operators and getting away with it. There is no reason a broker should make the same or more than the truck hauling the load. For instance a legal load from Baton Rouge to Houston would pay $650 when it really should pay $1200 but the broker is keeping the other $550. Folks will take a $2.50 a mile load one way cause they are desperate and will take $1.50 a mile load to cover fuel to “get back home”. “Covering fuel” to get back home quickly takes it toll on the equipment. Sad to say but company driver is starting to look like the only way unless you have a direct connection in shipping with someone. And you have the whole house riding on that one connection so that’s not ideal either.

I’d like to see all box trailer / container trucks heading to freight hubs run by ai. All In the RIGHT LANE !
CDL shortage solved, the 3 lanes blocked 1 mph overtake eliminated. Idiot aggressive low brows out of the trucking industry.
Then likely we’d only have the real professional truck drivers running low boy loads, live stock, oversize, single destination loads etc …..

I've seen so many road rage occurrences between regular drivers. A lot of times it's like a popcorn moment. The things I've seen are wild.

CDL shortage solved,
Blindside 60 degree back is pretty easy when the driver can look out of his back window
Maybe they should make all "distilleries" in America" A.I.

What are the three best incidents?
Rage racing that turned into a multple car crash
Two cars pulled over and both drivers get into a fist fight(2 women)
Semi pulling brand new cars flips over and cars fly everywhere onto the interstate. I was almost first in line to stop and wait almost 2 hours for it to get cleaned up to move.
1 semi changing lanes right into another one locking them up and proceed to roll over together.
Car racing next to each other throwing food at each other.
Motorcycle flying by and rides along another 18 wheeler and glides his hand along the trailer like he is gliding a wave on a surf board, loses control and goes under the trailer
18 wheeler flies right off an overpass and just explodes on contacting the ground. The guy was 70 yrs old and was a driver for 40 yrs. His family said he was a very good driver. He obviously died in the crash/flames. I looked up the news report. This happened in Dallas. Many wondered what happened. The ly suspected he had a heart attack driving and he crashed. It happened right in front of me while I was on the service road at a light stopped right next to i20 east. Over pass was right on side running parallel to me and he came flying off. Upon landing the whole tractor/most of trailer was engulfed in flames.
There are pretty bad ones on you tube.

Not to sound stereo typical or anything but the said "trucker in left lane driving slow issue" there are as many 4 wheel drivers(keep in mind, car/pickups don't have govenors) who do this and more by the thousands on our hwys and interstates. The person I see the most do this and be stubborn and say to hell with all of you , I'm not moving?
Anyone wanna guess?

I had a friend whose dad was a locomotive engineer for CSX. He said that over their career they all end up killing a few people, either from drunks laying on the tracks, idiots stopping vehicles on the tracks, or suiciders.
Whatever happened to convoys?
How many drivers are teamsters these days? Doesn't seem like there are many in the South.

quote:oh yeah. When I saw it I literally placed my hand on the side of my face I didn't wanna see the bad parts. When I see an animal disoriented that finds it's way onto the interstate, I focus on the road and don't watch the impending slaughter of the animal. Ive seen deer just get exploded when a trucker hits them. Poor animals get obliterated by semis/regular drivers alot. I did once witness on beltway 8 and dog just happily bounce around like he had just got out of his cage and ran into the highway. It was literally like he was playing and got to the median where he couldnt advance to the north/west bound lane. Amazing thing was several cars stopped mid flight, someone got out of car and grabbed the dog and put it in back seat and rolled away. We all slowed down considerably for the rescue to happen or that dog was a goner.
Killed him, I suppose?
quote:ive been in a few convoys(more like a pile of semis all bunched up like 25 or so) by accident and it's holy hell to navigate through them. Id almost rather pull off and fuel up and pass a few minutes and them hop back on and its clear. Many are doing different speeds so it becomes an olay event of who is passing who and it's nuts.
Whatever happened to convoys?
quote:I agree not many in the south. I dont follow unions so tbh I wouldn't know. Once in a previous trucking job I had before this one, they inserviced us about unions etc. Basically told us to stay away from them and don't let them force you to do anything or sign anything. It was weird.

That would be a good trick. When I stop on Saturday I have a reset that last me until around 4pm today. Then I'm gone. Sometimes Ill just wait until Tuesday morning.

broker here
We do a lane similar from BR to Houston and we would never receive a load if we quoted it @ $1200
That's over 4.00 per mile all the way through
If you did 1200 a day, just that lane alone, would net you over 300k+ a year M-F and you'd be home every weekend.
That's a great headhaul rate for the money you're suggesting, but that's really expensive.
