Anyone here on the OT currently using a turn table set up? Any places in the Baton Rouge area that can be helpful to me ?

Wasn't expecting as much information and depth when I started looking into getting a turntable, there is a lot that goes into it, so any help is appreciated.

Edit: I would rather this thread stay on the OT for more exposure, but if it has to be moved to music board, no worries.

I have a turntable... nothing too complicated about it, but you'll need a stereo system unless you buy one with speakers built in.

It's not as complicated as you think.

To Displaced as well

Just for playing of records , listening enjoyment.

Not trying to become a DJ.

And I didn't think about guitar center. Also I do have some speakers and a receiver.

Get one with good reviews off of Amazon, you'll be fine as long as you have a good speaker/receiver setup with an available input.

Would be happy to answer questions. This thread has some turntable folks in it.

ETA: the poster Marco Esquandolas knows his shite and has a legit setup and is really cool about answering newb questions we ask him.

I just started listening in the last couple of months so feel free to ask any questions in that thread

Thanks Boo and Shark. I'll read up some more on reviews.

I'll also read through that thread.

I have this model. It is a USB that you can convert to MP3. The sound is good.

I started collecting vinyl in high school. I have a lot of stuff from the 60s and 70s. My favorite album that I own is Otis Redding and Jimi Hendrix live from The Monterrey Pop Festival. It isn't all that valuable, but it is my favorite.

What's your budget for the turntable and setup? So that would be the turntable, phono preamp, receiver, and speakers. (Although depending on the receiver you get it may already have a phono input but I prefer having a phone preamp anyway)

Some great intro level tables are:

Pro-ject Debut Carbon

Music Hall MMF 2.2

U Turn Orbit (the one I have and a less costly alternative to the above tables) perfect for beginners because it's about 200 bucks but plays like a more expensive turntable and won't frick up your records.

There was a good one on the music board awhile back. Use the google search and it should be easy to find

JumpingtheShark.s linked thread is a good start.

Or just get yourself a mid-tier table (pro-ject or similar) and an old Marantz receiver. Can't go wrong.

Talk about a legit OT baller! His sound system costs more than most posters houses on here, he must be worth so many millions.

I highly, highly suggest [link=(reddit.com/r/vinyl)]reddit community[/link]

Now, purists will say not to get one of those all in one players. However, I don't play vinyl a whole lot and mine is much too convenient to not have.

BUT, you can shop around at goodwill and second hand stores and find a great setup.
