the temperature in our home doesn't cool. We 're-set the thermostat modes and set on cool. The air conditioning works properly after doing this, is operating real fine right now. I failed to add that before the cooling slows the house seems to become colder than usual....any sense as to what might not be working properly.

Thank you.

Freezing up. You have a leak in the coil.

See if condenser fan (outside) is running. If not, the fan motor could be dead or could be the capacitor that starts it.

Unit could have leaked out coolant. May also need to clean the coils.

If unit is at least 10-12 years old, it's probably at its end. A compressor will work for 20 to 30 years or more, but ac systems usually leak well before then.

We have the unit serviced regularly and the coils were recently removed, cleaned and reinstalled. When reinstalled they initially gave off a cleaning solvent odor and the wife said she noticed it last night.

Very well may be the malady.

Thank you all

Cooling "fins" on outside unit may dirty. There is a spray to break it up so you can hose it off. Do not use a lot of pressure from hose because it'll damage the fins.

Hope this helps
