Then those jobs will pay more to offset the higher cost of living on a coast. We shouldn't subsidize a company's employee's insurance premiums so they can pay them less.

Where is the money going to come from to pay higher salaries?

It’s going to be passed on to consumers

So either way will be subsidized

just to understand, you want taxpayers to subsidize the coastal companies' workforce so that taxpayers won't have higher consumer costs?

Seems like it would be better to just free market work itself out....as always.

Paying the employees more is still other taxpayers (who are also consumers) subsidizing the insurance costs of port workers.

Would you rather the government hand out a check directly to the workers, or the company charge higher prices to pay higher wages?

Either way, it’s a wealth transfer from non coastal residents to coastal workers to the insurance companies.

I’d rather neither happen and we find a way to lower costs.

Yeah that’s one way to accelerate the “you will own nothing and be happy” talking point.

I get we shouldn’t socialize losses with people that literally live on the water but it’s hard to dodge a bullet anywhere now.

Not all taxpayers will use the products from coastal companies as much as others. Not fair to make all taxpayers equally share the burden if the fedgov gets involved.

Company pay higher wages. The more you consume of that companies product, the more you "subsidize" the workers higher wages needed for living in an risky area.

Walmart has huge electric costs. Should the fedgov start paying their light bill because those costs are going to get passed onto the taxpayer/consumer?
No. Not everyone shops at walmart as much, or at all, as others.
