Maybe because a 6 year old is curious and would want to look and see what's going on???? Sounds crazy doesnt it

Whatever you say. You want to try to keep it literal, be my guest.

Could mom have not said sweetie cover your eyes instead of making a sudden movement on a dark street while being pulled over? Is that really too much to ask?

If you'd ever seen your child succumb to a seizure, you wouldn't ask this dumb fricking question. You would do the FASTEST and most sure thing you can to prevent them.

My son has a seizure condition and thanks to medication has only had the breakout initial seizure 5 years ago...but walking in and seeing that still haunts me. If my child suffered from them regularly, there's no question I'd have been diving in the backseat to cover his eyes.

Do I understand why the cop reacted like he did? Sure! But once he realized what was happening, did he do anything at all to assist, or simply wait the whole thing out to get his ticket signed? His inital reaction wasn't the part that made him a fricking tool...his seemingly callous reaction afterwards (and that has zero to do with giving the ticket) is.

Not one word of concern asking about the girl? Seriously?

Yea, that's what was going on.

Criticized for doing his job. Fantastic stuff.

No. He should be criticized for not showing a damn bit of compassion for a man and woman who have just gone through an ordeal in which their 6 year old was in a life threatening situation...one in which he contributed to (unknowningly) while drawing his weapon.

It takes a real douchebag to be in that situation and not, once the situation is over, go ask the guy and his wife if the child is ok, express his regret, etc.

The guy deserves criticism for that. I think it's a perfect response for the OP to go get his ticket and post the cops name. And, people can decide for themselves whether the cop deserves criticism or not.

Telling the m to do it is faster than unbuckling a seatbelt and getting to the back of the car. Good job.

It's been established she was fine since page 1.

I am no cop, but common sense makes me assume that once the cop sees a six year old girl in the back seat, he probably disregards her as a threat and focuses full attention on the adults.

OP said he tried to tell the cop what was going on, did he not?

And that's the only thing that was going on? He had to also focus on the possible threat. Again, it's very easy to criticize in hindsight, as you're so beautifully demonstrating.

So every excuse in the world for why a 6 year old can't simply cover her eyes, but no consideration for the cop.

Bravo OT.

You just unwittingly equated the reasoning ability of a cop to a six year old.

Well done.

So its impossible to listen to a person speak and keep an eye on something suspicious? Typical of cops and their defenders. Dont listen to reason, just shoot and yell.

I like how you throw out don't listen to reason while you're bashing a guy for assessing a situation as best he could way after the fact.

I'm done with this. Some of yall are clearly never going to side with the cop, so I'll refrain from bashing my head against this wall anymore.

It's the only way to read it.

Here's to hoping that the OP posts the PD and the officer that were involved.

No, it isn't, because you're then going to have to answer the "Why, Mommy," questions. frick that...cover them yourself and prevent the seizure if you can.

An ambulance showed up...for a 6 year old little girl...but that wouldn't warrant a, "Sir...I'm glad to see your daughter's doing ok," at least?

You really are a piece of fricking work.

She's fricking six.

The very fact that the mother felt the need to cover the daughter's eyes should tell you everything you need to know. And, in fact, it STILL wasn't enough to prevent the onset of the seizure.

But, keep arguing that the six year old should have been able to handle it.
