That's an argument with a regional bias. In Louisiana, we tend to think the world could not sustain itself without fossil fuels.
That may hold true for another 100 years. The world is evolving towards cleaner fuel sources and electrification of vehicles. We will still need fossil fuels to produce certain critical products but I tend to think the market would find another way if it was pushed in that direction.

I believe the US is one economic depression away from electing tyranny. We got very close in the 1930's. Lots of socialists were popping up at that time.

If we keep electing leaders based on celebrity status and bluster instead of competency and intelligence then we are screwed.

Officially the United State may last a few hundred more years, but what we know now as the United States will die when Donald J Trump claims some constitutional loophole allows him to forgo reelection and stay in power indefinitely.
