I readily admit that I'm not the most empathetic person but this is just Congrats on firing her arse

quote:

Gas station manager fired after telling mom, whose son is on life support, to work or be fired

quote:

“If you can’t come to work that’s you quitting,” Dawn allegedly replied.

I was just reading this. She could go to any of the 500 gas stations in her town and start working immediately.

There is always another side to the story. The employee could have already missed X amount of days for BS reasons and this time she's telling the truth.

Looks like she was using her employee discount to feed that kid with gas station junk food for 18 years.

Geez, pretty harsh. Sorry to inconvenience you, Mrs. Gas Station Manager.

I bet the gas station owner is terminating the manager as we speak. This is bad press for the business.

In a situation like this you work with the person and spread some OT around to the other employees.

I hate living in an era where things like this go viral all over the country and people get fired because of all the false outrage.

Here we have one side of the story and people run with it like it’s the only facts.

Everyone says they have sympathy for those going through major medical family issues, but reality is noone cares beyond a nod and a pseudo-prayer.

At some point, it turns to "this stuff has to be taken care of" regardless of your hardships.

Sucks, but reality.

This is probably what happened. Manager should have just granted the employee an unpaid leave and then simply not schedule hours for this person going forward.

A soft firing that would have less drama.

It sucks when an employee has a legit situation to miss work but they used up all that loyalty credit on bullshite absences previously.

She had her daughter call in. Against policy.

Texted in. Against policy.

Manager stated she had been accommodating throughout the whole process covering and moving shifts.

At some point you can’t just call out every day. If the company doesn’t provide disability or LOA, what more can the manager do? If you don’t have sick or vacation days and get scheduled, it’s job abandonment if you don’t show up. If you don’t want to be scheduled, then what are they supposed to do?

She could’ve been nicer, but I don’t see what was so fricked up. It’s a shitty situation, but not everything has to be “I’m offended, you’re fired!”
